Lake Martin is Alabama’s largest lake, spanning across 44,000 acres on the Tallapoosa River. The lake, which has 750 miles of incredible beautiful shoreline, without question, offers something for everyone. Whether it be quietude or recreation, there is no end to the pleasure and satisfaction you will find. Countless enjoyable activities include: boating, skiing, sailing, golfing, great crappie and striped bass fishing, canoeing, swimming and outstanding dining!
Lake Martin has largemouth bass, spotted bass, striped bass, white bass, black crappie, channel catfish, flathead catfish, bluegill, and redear sunfish species of fish. The lake is a popular location for bass tournaments, many of the tournaments being held at Wind Creek State Park in Alexander City (Tallapoosa County). There are many private and public boat launches and marinas located around Lake Martin. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) runs several of the public boat ramps located in Tallapoosa County and others are run by Alabama Power Company, Tallapoosa County, and Alexander City. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park

The 2,040 acre National Military Park is dedicated to the memory of U.S. Soldiers and Creek Nation Indians who died in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend on March 27, 1814. The visitor center and museum depicts the period of the battle and explains the equipment used by the soldiers and Creek Indians. The park features a driving tour, hiking, picnicking, boating, fishing, and bicycling. The road tour features historic markers retelling the story of the final battle in the Creek War. The park also has monthly living history demonstrations.
Wind Creek State Park

Wind Creek State Park, seven miles southeast of Alexander City on Highway 128, spans 1,445 acres of pine and hardwood ridges on the shoreline of beautiful Lake Martin. Wind Creek’s fully equipped modern campground contains 642 sites spread over 320 acres and includes a marina, picnic areas, hiking trails, and play areas.
Lake Martin Amphitheater

The Amphitheater is formed on a bluff overlooking Lake Martin, just off of Highway 63 near Kowaliga Point by Russell Lands. The site has a stage area and grass seating with a capacity of more than 2,500 patrons. As an open-air site, the Amphitheater overlooks the Big Kowaliga Basin, one of the most beautiful areas on Lake Martin. It is also the site of many of the region’s best-loved musical events each year, including the Alexander City Jazz Festival, Fourth of July Blast Concert and Fireworks, and Labor Day Weekend Concert.
Jazz Fest at Lake Martin Amphitheater
For more than a decade, lovers of jazz and blues in search of a music festival need look no farther than Alexander City. The annual free event features two nights of great musical acts and draws crowds from all over the estate and country. Fourth of July Fireworks at Lake Martin Amphitheater
Renowned as one of the largest shows in the southeast, the skies will light up at 9:00 p.m. at The Amp. Live entertainment will begin at 7:00 p.m. Those not wishing to attend the concert may watch the fireworks from boats or in the open fields off Highway 63. Martin Dam Tour

The reservoir the dam created not only became the world’s largest body of artificial water in 1926. It represented the ability to produce vast amounts of hydroelectric power. The reservoir has power storage of 301,700,000 kilowatt-hours, enough to supply 25,000 households for a year.
Chimney Rock Island and Acapulco Rock
Chimney Rock is one of the most popular sites and a famous landmark on Lake Martin. It got its name from a rock that protrudes from the top of the island that resembles a chimney. It is a popular island boating stop where daredevils climb to various points on the lone rock that juts from the island like a chimney – and jump into the lake. Many people have confused Chimney Rock with the nearby jumping rock called Acapulco Rock. Chimney Rock is only a few meters from the waterfront and is not situated for jumping so make sure you are in the right place! Learn more about Acapulco Island.

Hank Williams Lake Martin Cabin

Cabin that Hank Williams stayed in August 1952 to recuperate after he left the Grand Ole Opry. While he stayed here he wrote two classic songs “Poor ol Kaw-Liga” with Fred Rose, and also “Your Cheatin’ Heart.” It is decorated in a 1952-era motif.
Wellborn Muscle Car Museum

This museum features one of the largest collections of muscle cars from the 1960s through the 1970s. Included in the collection is a almost every color of the 1971 Dodge Charger and several rare muscle cars.

Lakewinds Golf Course is located in Alexander City just off US 280, east of the Tallapoosa River Bridge. Lakewinds municipal course is built on 125 beautiful acres within sight of Lake Martin. Built in the 1960’s, Lakewinds is one of the few old style golf courses still in existence today. The course has small greens in proportion to the length of each hole offering many different types of tee shots as well as three lakes demanding accurate iron shots.

The 9-hole “Hatchett Creek” course at the Hatchett Creek Golf Course facility in Goodwater, Alabama features 2,930 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70 . Designed by Joe Gillind, the Hatchett Creek golf course opened in 1967.
